Abstract

Ibero-Romance integrated an important number of Arabic loanwords including toponyms and hydronyms, especially during the Moorish period (711-1492). This article aims to provide some explanatory notes on underlying Arabic language structures in these borrowings, as etymological dictionaries usually only refer to the headword in question.

Volker Noll, Universität Münster

Volker Noll doutorou-se em linguística francesa na Universidade de Heidelberg (Alemanha). Obteve a livre-docência na Universidade de Göttingen com tese sobre o português brasileiro, publicada também no Brasil (Globo, 2008). Atualmente é catedrático de linguística românica na Universidade de Münster, com especialização em estudos diacrônicos. Seu campo de pesquisa preferido é a área da linguística hispano-americana e brasileira.
